Content Guidelines

Last updated: June 2, 2026

1. Overview

These Content Guidelines outline what is and is not allowed on Pieces. By using our platform, you agree to comply with these guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination.

Important: when a Piece's funding goal is met, its source content is released publicly and stored on decentralized storage networks. Both source and preview files must comply with these guidelines, and you should only publish content you are comfortable making permanently public.

2. Zero Tolerance Content

The following content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account termination and reporting to appropriate authorities where required by law:

  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): Any content that depicts, promotes, or relates to the sexual exploitation of minors
  • Terrorism and Violent Extremism: Content that promotes, supports, or glorifies terrorist organizations or violent extremist ideologies
  • Credible Threats of Violence: Direct and credible threats to harm individuals, groups, or property
  • Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery: Intimate or sexual images shared without the consent of the individuals depicted

We report CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by law.

3. Prohibited Content

The following categories of content are not allowed on Pieces:

3.1 Sexual and Adult Content

  • Content depicting sexual acts or nudity intended for sexual gratification
  • Sexual services or solicitation

3.2 Violence and Gore

  • Graphic depictions of violence, injury, or death
  • Content glorifying or promoting violence
  • Animal cruelty or abuse

3.3 Hateful Content

  • Content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or violence against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Slurs, dehumanizing language, or harmful stereotypes

3.4 Harassment and Bullying

  • Targeted harassment of individuals
  • Doxxing or sharing private information without consent
  • Encouraging others to harass or harm individuals

3.5 Dangerous and Harmful Content

  • Instructions for creating weapons, explosives, or dangerous substances
  • Content promoting self-harm or suicide
  • Content promoting dangerous activities or challenges

3.6 Illegal Activity

  • Content that facilitates or promotes illegal activities
  • Sale of illegal goods or services
  • Content that violates export controls or sanctions

3.7 Intellectual Property Infringement

  • Copyright infringement
  • Trademark violations
  • Counterfeit goods

3.8 Spam and Misleading Content

  • Spam, phishing, or malware distribution
  • Misleading or deceptive content intended to defraud users
  • Fake engagement or artificially inflated metrics

4. Preview and Source Content

Every Piece has source content (the files backers are funding) and may optionally include preview files. Preview files are publicly visible from the moment a Piece is published. Source files are encrypted at rest and released publicly if (and only if) the Piece's funding goal is met. The following rules apply:

  • Both preview and source files are subject to the same content policies. All rules in Sections 2 and 3 apply equally to both.
  • Previews should give backers a fair indication of the source content. Deliberately misleading previews that misrepresent the source violate these guidelines.
  • Previews are optional. Creators may publish a Piece without one. Backers will see a "No preview available" placeholder and decide based on the title, description, and creator reputation.
  • Misleading previews are also enforced through the creator rating system. Once a Piece funds and the source is released publicly, backers can evaluate the preview against the actual content. Consistently misleading previews lead to rating penalties and may result in account action.

5. Enforcement

Violations of these guidelines may result in one or more of the following actions:

  • Warning: A notification that your content or behavior violates our guidelines
  • Content Removal: Removal of the violating content from the platform
  • Account Suspension: Temporary restriction of account access and functionality
  • Permanent Ban: Permanent termination of account access

The severity of enforcement depends on the nature of the violation, whether it is a repeat offense, and the potential harm to the community.

5.1 Account Termination and Funds

If your account is terminated for violations of these guidelines:

  • You will lose access to your account and any associated features
  • Active Pieces may be suspended or removed
  • Funds held within smart contracts are subject to the contract's rules
  • Funds in your personal wallet remain under your control; we cannot seize funds from non-custodial wallets

6. Reporting Violations

If you encounter content or behavior that violates these guidelines, please report it to us:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Include the URL or identifier of the content in question
  • Provide a description of the violation

We review all reports and take appropriate action. Frivolous or abusive reports may result in action against the reporting account.

7. Appeals

If you believe your content was removed or your account was actioned in error, you may submit an appeal:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Include your username and a description of the action taken
  • Explain why you believe the action was incorrect

We will review appeals and respond within 30 days. Our decision on appeals is final.

8. Modifications

We may update these Content Guidelines at any time. Material changes will be communicated through email or platform notifications. Continued use of Pieces after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated guidelines.
