DMCA Policy
Last updated: June 2, 2026
1. Overview
Pieces respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users of our platform to do the same. In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 ("DMCA"), we will respond expeditiously to claims of copyright infringement reported to our designated copyright agent. This policy applies to all content on Pieces, including source files, preview files, and content that has been publicly released after a Piece met its funding goal.
2. Designated Copyright Agent
Our designated agent for receiving notifications of claimed infringement is:
Pieces DMCA Agent
Pieces, Inc.
Email: [email protected]
3. Filing a DMCA Takedown Notice
If you believe that content hosted on Pieces infringes your copyright, please submit a written notification containing the following information:
- A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright interest
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or if multiple copyrighted works are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity, and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material (such as the URL or Piece identifier)
- Information reasonably sufficient to permit us to contact you, such as an address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright that is allegedly infringed
Send your DMCA takedown notice to [email protected].
4. Counter-Notification
If you believe that your content was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification containing the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature
- Identification of the material that has been removed or to which access has been disabled, and the location at which the material appeared before it was removed or access to it was disabled
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification
- Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located, or if your address is outside of the United States, for any judicial district in which Pieces may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original DMCA notification or an agent of such person
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we will forward it to the original complainant. If the complainant does not notify us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the allegedly infringing activity, we may restore the removed content.
5. Decentralized Storage and Removal Limits
Content on Pieces is stored on decentralized storage networks (such as IPFS). When we act on a valid takedown notice, we remove the content from our platform's interfaces and stop linking to it. We cannot, however, guarantee removal from independent IPFS nodes, public mirrors, or third-party caches that may already have a copy of publicly released content. Once a Piece has been funded and its content publicly released, copies may persist outside our control. We will use reasonable efforts to disable access through our Service.
6. Repeat Infringer Policy
In accordance with the DMCA and other applicable law, Pieces has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, users who are deemed to be repeat infringers. We may also, at our sole discretion, limit access to the platform and/or terminate the accounts of any users who infringe any intellectual property rights of others, whether or not there is any repeat infringement.
7. Good Faith Statement
Please note that under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing, or that material or activity was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, may be subject to liability for damages. If you are not sure whether material available online infringes your copyright, we suggest that you first contact an attorney.
8. Modifications
Pieces reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue this DMCA policy at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to our website with an updated "Last Updated" date.
